And curiously, I can think of few other samples that would compliment Del's urgent delivery as effectively as Albarn's laconic vocal haze. On "Clint Eastwood", Del tha Funkee Homosapien handles the song's verses, allowing Damon a small cameo in the looped chorus. "New Genious (Brother)" is gloomy trip-hop with orchestral flourishes that wrap around the flux of Albarn's falsetto. On "Man Research (Clapper)", Damon wails hysterically over Dan's relentless, echoing thump.

We can most definitely confirm the singer’s a soldier when he reveals in the next stanza that “your waters from a bottle, mine’s from a canteen.” All of this is reinforced when the singer also says things like, “At night I hear shots… The cost of life, It seems to get cheaper, Out in the desert… The war is over, So said the speaker with the flight suit on,” with the last line a direct reference to President Bush who delivered his “Mission Accomplished” speech in a flight suit. When the singer also says in the next stanza, “I’m the reason why you fill your Isuzu”, the singer is referring to the fact tat the wars in the middle east were largely for oil, in which the citizens of rich economies take for granted everyday. “I’m a peace loving decoy” explains that the soldier may actually just be a regular civilian looking for peace and love but is instead stuck in the middle of a war zone with no choice but to fight back, changing “the whole occasion to a pine box six-under”, or in other words, spreading coffins.

The third stanza explains that the soldier has “his act right” in his backpack, threatening retaliation if “you act quite difficult”, meanwhile knowing that there are also those out there who “ and like me”, meaning that throughout all of the excuses being used to justify a war, the unintended consequences of which foster an environment full of vigilantes and retribution seekers. The first stanza explains that the singer needs a gun for protection while acknowledging that those that are “burning in the sun…ain’t got a chance.” This might be a nod to a soldier serving in the Middle East somewhere if we are to assume that the song was, in fact, about the wars set out from the Bush Presidency. Even the lyrics within the song nod to real life events concerning the Iraq War under the Bush Administration.Įxamining the lyrics much closer might reveal a bit about the song’s main message or theme.

Dirty Harry is a track with so many references with real life events and parodies cultural icons, more specifically war in its entirety.
